About OpenSports

Why Hunter Pickleball uses OpenSports

OpenSports is an easy-to-use app, designed specifically for sporting organisations for managing game registrations and collecting payment via a secure online payment system.


Hunter Pickleball is now using OpenSports for session registration and payment due to the limited number of spaces at some sessions, and the fact that we need to collect funds in order to pay the venue for court hire. 


How to Join OpenSports

You will need to use a phone or tablet, rather than a computer, to download the OpenSports app.

  1. For Apple devices go the Apple App Store; for Android devices go to the Play Store. 
  2. Once downloaded, open the app, and click on 'Sign Up'.  Sign up with your email address and create a unique password. If you prefer, you can sign up using your Facebook or Apple credentials. 
  3. Enter your details, then click on 'Sign Up'. OpenSports will send a verification email to the email account you entered on the Sign Up page.
  4. Open the email from OpenSports from your email account inbox, and click on the verification link. 
  5. Return to the OpenSports app and click 'Log In'. Enter your email address and password that you used on the Sign Up page.
  6. Enter your location manually or let the phone detect your location automatically. You may also use the slider to have events listed with a certain distance from your location. This is useful if you are only interested in events in your area.


Adding Payment Details

OpenSports uses a secure online payment system called Stripe. 


In order to pay for a session in OpenSports, details of a credit card or debit card need to be entered into your OpenSports account.


To add your card details, log in to the OpenSports app, ensure you are on the 'Account' page (the one with the person icon), click on 'Settings' (cog icon), then click 'Payment Info' under 'ACCOUNT INFO'. Follow the prompts to enter your card details.


You are now ready to book into a session! 

Registering for a Session

Registering for a session is simple. Just open the OpenSports app, ensure you are on the 'Discover' page (the one with the 'O' symbol), select an event, click 'Join', then 'Get Spot'. 


All Hunter Pickleball Inc sessions are now required to be booked and paid for within OpenSports. This includes sessions at Broadmeadow Basketball Stadium, Floraville, The Forum, and Wickham. 


OpenSports is not being used for PCYC  session registrations and payments. You will continue to pay for PCYC sessions directly at the venue.

Cancelling a Session Registration

Most sessions have a limited number of booking spots.. So there may be a number of people on a 'Wait List'.


If you have registered to attend or are on a wait list, it is very important that you remove yourself from the 'Going List' or 'Wait List' AS SOON AS you become aware that you cannot attend. This way, someone else will be able to take your place. If this is done earlier than 24 hours prior to the session start time, the cost of the session will be credited back to your account. Cancellations made within 24 hours prior to the session will not receive a refund.


To cancel, open up the event in the app, find your name and click 'Cancel'.  


The Waitlist

If a session is full, you will be offered the option to 'Join Waitlist'.

You can see your position in the Waitlist in the OpenSports app.

If someone cancels their registration, the place will be offered to the first person on the Waitlist. This person will receive an email and a push notification. 


How long will you have to accept the place?

  • 2 hours, if the session is more than 16 hours in the future
  • 30 minutes, if the session is beween 16 hours and 1 hour in the future
  • 10 minutes, if the session begins in less than 1 hour.


Except, during the 'Blackout Period'. If someone cancels their registration after 10 pm, the first person on the Waitlist will receive a notification and will have until 9 am to accept the offer. If a player cancels before 10 pm, the acceptance period will be as listed above.

  • Example 1: For a session at 9 am the next morning, a player cancels at 9:45 pm. This session is less than 16 hours away, so the acceptance period is 30 minutes. The first person on the Waitlist will have until 10:15 pm to accept. If this person does not accept the offer, at 10:15 pm it will be passed to the next waitlisted person; since it is now after 10 pm, this person will have until 9 am to accept.
  • Example 2: At 9:45 pm, a player cancels a session scheduled in 3 days’ time. The first person on the Waitlist will have until 11:45 pm to accept, or they lose their place to the second person on the Waitlist. The second person will be notified at 11:45 pm and they will have until 9 am to accept. The first person drops off the Waitlist and may re-register if they want to.



If you are on a Waitlist, make sure you have OpenSports notifications turned on in your phone settings.

  • If the place is offered to you and you do not accept it, you will drop off the Waitlist. You do not automatically go back on the Waitlist. If you miss your chance and you still want to be on the Waitlist, you will need to re-register for that session.
  • If a session is showing as not full but you cannot register, it may be due to the OpenSports offering a spot to someone on the Waitlist. You can still join the Waitlist.
